The Mythology of Terathia

The Mythology of Terathia is wide and varied, however despite this there are certain myths that are eerily similar to one another. The most prominent of these are the creation myths of each culture/region in Terathia. They all have different names - such as "The Godswar," "The Rending," and "The Landsfall," but they all share incredibly eerie similarities. This goes to the point where scholars commonly agree in the modern era (The Age of Rebirth) that these creation myths are explanations for some worldwide disaster that happened in the distant past, the true details of which have been lost to time (and even back during the Age of Gilded Blades many scholars shared that sort of view).

AUTHOR'S NOTE: I will move this to a separate page and make more pages for other creation myths once I have more substance for them.

The variation I will focus on for now (at least until I get the worldbuilding more finalized) is the story of The Godswar. The Events of the Godswar go as follows:

The Godswar:

In the distant past the Gods lived in harmony with the Land and the Land's Children and life prospered. However petty arguments between the Gods grew to eventually become a civil war between them. While civil wars were relatively common amongst the Gods, this one was far larger than all the others preceding it. The Gods brought their full might to bear against one another, wielding utterly devastating power which ravaged all life.

While the Gods fought the Land and its Children suffered greatly, and the Land's Children pleaded with the Land, who sought to end the war peacefully. The Gods, in their hubris disregarded the Land's pleas to end the war; and soon the Land realized that the Gods were going to destroy it and its Children, and that they would simply carry on once their war was over without a care. This enraged the Land, which with the aid of its children smote the gods with a thousand curses, so that the Gods would die alongside the Land. While these curses were the land's death blow the Land, they ravaged the Gods, with all but ten (SUBJECT TO CHANGE) dying as a result. These ten gods realized the error of their ways, and with their dying breaths breathed life into a small portion of the Land, and sealed it away from the rest of the world using three great Seals. One Seal was a grand Mountain Range, another was an Eternal Sea; with the last seal being broken and lost due to the machinations a treacherous God. This protected this part of the world from both the thousand curses of the Land and the dying gasps of some of the vindictive Gods who still fought despite these Curses.

After tens of thousands of years life has begun to flourish in this portion of the Land - which became known as Terathia.
